EASTER 2013
Easter Candle
The Kingdom of Heaven
Our Easter Play performed by the children of St Winefride's Parish on Palm Sunday (24th March) 2013 at 7pm at St Winefride's Church.
It was a cold and snowy evening but despite the weather we had a good audeince including six clergy (Mgr Chris Lightbound, Fr Denis Marmion, Canon John Marmion, Canon Brendan Hoban, Canon John Reilly and Fr Ravi) who came and saw the wonderful play that had been produced by over 20 of St Winefride's finest!
Our musicians Philip and Matthew under the watchful eye of the director Mrs Powell ably assisted by Jordan really added sparkle to the evening and were very dedicated coming to so many rehearsals.
We were lucky to have a group of dedicated back stage hands to sort out props, hold sheets, do scene changes and generally make themselves useful...
Thank you Kit, Daniel, Erin and Josh!
Our cast was made up of year 1 to year 6 children in the parish. They learnt lines, songs, actions and learnt how to do them all at the same time. The soloists where very confident and showed no nerves singing at the microphone and indeed seem to throughly enjoy themselves!
Thank you all: Christopher, Eddie, Simon, Faye, Scarlet, Jessica, Daniel, Elinor, Alannah, Dominic, Jade, Tomas, Rowan, James, Abigail and Kate. You were fantastic!
Our musicians were note and rhythm perfect: thank you so much Philip and Matthew!
Also a very big thank you to Jordan who was an inspirational "action" director and our very talented muscial director Mrs Katharine Powell who remained calm and collected throughout! Plans are already being made for the next extravanganza...
Some of the comments made by the cast:
"I liked helping the children"
"I enjoyed the singing, but enjoyed all of it"
"I liked all of it!"
"I liked being a part of it and watching the parents' and grandparents' faces light up"
"I liked the crucifixion"
"I liked being with the younger children"
"I enjoyed the singing especially my solo"
The mix of ages, schools and talents really came together throughout the rehearsal time on the night and many new friends were made along the way. We hope that next time some more of our fantastic children will join us and show St Winefride's parish just what we can do!
